£¯Course Objectives
This one-term, twice-a-week required class for first-year students develops a range of
English language skills (with an emphasis on oral communication) by applying practical
communication strategies to help build on those linguistic skills learned by students in high
school.
Overall Objectives
1. To give students maximum opportunities to communicate
2. To build student confidence in interpersonal communication
3. To begin to develop the basic study skills needed to successfully carry out their four
years of English study at this institution

This course focuses on improving students’ "listening" and "speaking," as stated in DP 2.
Overall objectives are for them to acquire the basics of "oral receptive skills and productive skills,"
as stated in the CP.

£¯Teaching method and Attention the course
This course focuses on 3 main areas; talking about yourself, communicating in academic environments, and presenting or communicating ideas to others. First, the course will help you to talk about yourself and develop useful communication techniques when interacting with others. Second, the course will develop your academic communication skills such as working in groups, leading a discussion, giving feedback etc. A final feature of the course will be helping students communicate their ideas through mini presentations, preparing them for their future communication classes in semester II.

This is a face to face course. Classes will take place on campus.

There are no special applications required.
